Science Queers Academy, el reality de ciència en drag, torna aquest juny amb un nou grup de sis estudiants.

Tot i que els episodis s’emetran entre l’estiu i la tardor, podeu veure les actuacions en persona en el primer rodatge el dissabte 3 de juny a les 17 h al centre cívic Vil·la Urània.

Aquesta temporada serà la primera en català i la Kara Mel, matrícula d’honor de la promoció anterior, s’unirà a la directora Lana Vuli com a membre del professorat.

Science Queers Academy, the reality show about science in drag, will be back this June with six new students.

Although the episodes will air between summer and autumn, you can attend the live shows in the first shooting on Saturday 3rd of June at 5 pm in Vil·la Urània.

This will be the first season in Catalan (with English subtitles as always) and Kara Mel, first honours of the previous class, will join principal Lana Vuli as a teacher.

Science Queers apareix en un nou llibre de comunicació científica queer com a exemple de projecte que lluita per a la inclusió i la igualtat de les identitats LGTBIQA+ en aquest camp.

Unir el món queer i la divulgació científica és un pas important per a la denuncia, l’alliberament i la visibilitat queer.

Aquest recull examina el lloc de les persones queer en comunicació científica i es planteja què significa queerificar la pràctica i la teoria de la divulgació i l’agenda de la recerca.

Science Queers is included in a new book about queer science communication as an example of a project that fights for inclusivity and equity for LGBTIQA+ people in this field.

Bringing queer and science communication together is an important step for queer protest, liberation, and visibility.

This collection examines the place of queer people within science communication and asks what it means for the field to queer science communication practice, theory and research agendas.

Arriba el 3r Orgull en Ciències (18 de novembre, 19:30 h) per a visibilitzar la diversitat sexual i de gènere entre gent del món de la ciència i promoure la cultura científica.

Enguany comptem amb cinc xerrades i sis actuacions travestis.

El Kevin Ibeas Martínez parlarà de la sobreexpressió d’enzims contra l’obesitat; l’Ainoa Gómez analitzarà si els estereotips de les pel·lícules de Disney tenen fonament biològic; l’Adam Najjari destruirà mites de la medicina estètica; el Peter R. Sutton ens mostrarà llenguatge amb connotacions antiqueer, i l’Aurora Ranchal ens explicarà el dilema del presoner.

La Lana Vuli, la Kara Mel i l’Aljo Angelo faran la versió travesti d’aquests continguts i altres espectacles.

Com l’any passat, l’Orgull en Ciències formarà part de la setmana BcnQUEER de l’Ateneu del Raval i l’Espai QWERTY, del 15 al 19 de novembre.

Here comes the 3rd Pride in Science (18th November, 7.30 pm), an event for the visibility of sexual and gender diversity among people in the world of science and to promote science culture.

This year, we’ll enjoy five talks and six drag performances.

Kevin Ibeas Martínez will talk about overexpression of enzymes against obesity; Ainoa Gómez will analyse if the stereotypes in Disney films have a biological basis; Adam Najjari will debunk myths about cosmetic medicine; Peter R. Sutton will show speech with antiqueer connotations, and Aurora Ranchal will explain the prisoner dilema.

Lana Vuli, Kara Mel and Aljo Angelo will offer the drag version of these contents and other shows.

For the second time, Pride in Science will be part of the BcnQUEER week by Ateneu del Raval and Espai QWERTY, from the 15th to the 19th of November.

Analitzem la discriminació de les identitats sexuals i de gènere no normatives en entorns de ciència i proposem una via per combatre-la.

Els problemes imposats a la gent LGTBIQA+ per una societat que ens discrimina fan que haguem de tornar a l’armari en entorns de ciència, que perdem confiança en les nostres habilitats o el nostre valor com a persona i que se’ns exclogui de les posicions de poder. A sobre, la pròpia ciència ens tracta com una anomalia.

La visibilització de les nostres identitats en projectes com Science Queers és una de les millors eines per enfrontar-nos al sistema i aconseguir una ciència i una societat més inclusives.

Let’s analyse the discrimination against non-normative sexual and gender identities in science environments and suggest a way to fight it.

The problems imposed on LGBTIQA+ people by a society that discriminates against us cause us to go back in the closet in science environments, to lose self-confidence, in our skills and in us as people, and exclude us from positions of power. On top of that, science itself treats us as an anomaly.

Ensuring representation of our identities through projects like Science Queers is one of the best tools to challenge the system and make science and society more inclusive.

La segona temporada de Science Queers Academy

Dos anys després de l’èxit de Science Queers Academy, el reality de ciència en drag, un nou grup de travestis amb cinc drag queens i un drag king divulgaran ciència amb espectacles variats per aconseguir la matrícula d’honor.

Els vuit episodis de la segona temporada s’emetran aquesta tardor. Per ara ja estan disponibles el videoclip promocional y les presentacions del nou grup d’estudiants de l’acadèmia.

Two years after the success of Science Queers Academy, the reality show about science in drag, a new group of transvestites including five drag queens and one drag king will communicate science in a variety of shows to get the first class honours.

The eight episodes of the second season will be broadcast this autumn. At the moment, you can already enjoy the promotional music video and the introductions of the new students of the academy.

Comèdia científica al sortir del laboratori

After-lab with science comedy

L’1 de maig de 2018 el ja inactiu Scientists Dating Forum va organitzar un esdeveniment social de comèdia científica que podem destacar entre les seves altres accions més formals.

Aquest esdeveniment de comèdia científica buscava socialitzar i divertir-se amb la ciència al final d’un dia treballant al laboratori.

La Marnie Manning i el doctor Matthew Murtha van aportar la seva experiència fent monòlegs. La Lana Vuli i el seu alter ego Òscar Aznar Alemany van aportar el toc queer que el públic no esperava amb el Tango del peix el musical Disney sobre pesticides en salmó.

On the 1st of May of 2018, the now inactive Scientists Dating Forum organized a social event with science comedy that stood out from their other more formal actions.

This science comedy event offered a social and fun space in the context of science at the end of the workday in the laboratory.

Marnie Manning and doctor Matthew Murtha contributed with their experience as stand-up comedians. Lana Vuli and her alter ego Òscar Aznar Alemany contributed with the queer touch that the audience wasn’t expecting with the Seagood Tango and the Disney musical about pesticides in salmon.

Quan la llegenda travesti Joan Oh es va mudar a Barcelona l’estiu del 2016, la Lana li va demanar que li ensenyés l’art del transformisme per a un projecte que s’havia plantejat durant un temps.

Amb una estètica de travesti principiant, però tot el poder escènic, el Tango del peix es va estrenar a Brusseles el 25 de gener del 2017 a la conferència final del projecte ECsafeSEAFOOD amb membres de la indústria, autoritats i organitzacions de seguretat alimentària, associacions de consumidors i la comunitat científica.

Aquell mateix any, el Tango del peix es va presentar a la sessió Science Slam de SETAC Europe 2017, també a Brusseles, i a Nowhere, la versió espanyola del Burning Man al desert dels Monegres.

When drag legend Joan Oh moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2016, Lana asked Joan to teach her the art of drag for a project she had been considering for a while.

With a drag baby look, but all the stage power, the Seafood Tango premiered in Brussels on the 25th of January of 2017 at the final conference of the ECsafeSEAFOOD project attended by members of the industry, food safety organisations and authorities, consumer associations and the scientific community.

That same year, the Seafood Tango was performed at the Science Slam session of SETAC Europe 2017, also in Brussels, and at Nowhere, the Spanish version of Burning Man at the Monegros desert.
