Ratolins transgènics contra l’obesitat

La primera xerrada del 3r Orgull en Ciències parla de la manipulació d’un enzim per prevenir l’obesitat.

Durant el seu doctorat, el Kevin Ibeas Martínez va modificar en ratolins l’activitat de l’enzim CPT1A, que està involucrat en l’oxidació dels greixos.

Els ratolins modificats menjaven menys, s’engreixaven menys, estaven en millor forma física i fins i tot envellien més lentament.

The first talk of the 3rd Pride in Science is about manipulating an enzyme to prevent obesity.

During his PhD, Kevin Ibeas Martínez modified, in mice, the activity of enzyme CPT1A, which is involved in the oxidation of fat.

The modified mice ate less, gained less weight, showed better physical condition and even aged more slowly.
